Designer Indian Dresses Definition

Weddings customs differ from region to region in India. Most Indian cultures infuse their wedding ceremonies with extravagant parties and rituals, including special attire and adornments for the bride. One of the most popular choices for Indian bridal wear is the silk bridal sari, which is steeped in meaning and tradition.

Meaning
A sari is a strip of unstitched cloth, ranging from four to nine metres (13 to 30 feet) in length that is draped over the body in various styles. Bridal saris typically are made from silk and often will be custom-made. Many feature intricate artistic work that enrich the design designed to speak to the festive event. Many bridal saris feature embrodiery with gold or silver thread. In some cases precious stones such as pearls are incorporated into the decorations.

Color
Red is considered an auspicious color for an Indian wedding sari. Red is thought to bring good luck to the bride and into her marriage though this can vary based on the region or religious sect of the bride's family. Orange is also considered an auspicious color.

Status
The status of the bride also is apparent in her wedding sari as well as her accessories. The more elaborate the jewels and the fabric used in sari decorations, the higher the status of the family.

Blessing
Great care is given to the choice of colors, fabrics and styles of Indian bridal saris because Indian tradition says that the dress is like a blessing from God.

Married
In traditional Indian weddings, the maternal uncle gives the bride a group of bangles. He places them on her arm to denote her marital status. Bangles can be bejewelled and are generally made from gold.

Ritual
The groom completes the bridal wear at the end of the ceremony when he places the mangalsutra over his bride's head. This necklace, whose name means "the auspicious knot," is a sacred thread of love and goodwill worn by the bride to signify her betrothal.
